The One Event Detail That Cheapens Your Decor

When you put an important special event together, there are many decorative details you need to consider.

One detail that I've noticed gets repeatedly ignored, overlooked or forgotten is the humble table number.

It is not that there is no table number - more that it is a generic plastic table number such as the type you'd see in a local cafe.

Table numbers make a surprisingly large impact on the cohesion of your decorative scheme.

Apart from simply letting guests know at which tables they're to be seated, it also acts as a humble yet impactful anchoring decorative detail.

It shows you have thought of everything - from the invitations and food, to the music and the decor - to pull your event into one seamless experience.

I cannot count how many VIP and/or themed events which have been cheapened by using the plastic or laminated table numbers you see at cafes.

A black tie event I attended in Docklands had painstakingly themed the venue in my husband's real estate company's colours, yet the first thing I saw on approaching our table - and there were easily 20 tables to navigate - was a laminated table number poking above the expensive floral centrepieces.

It had been so heavily used in previous events that one edge of the laminated number was dog-eared.

The whole effect cheapened all other efforts in the room.

It would have been so easy to commission logo-ed A5-size card table numbers at the very least, or fun table numbers in the company's colours showing the different branches.

But there are many businesses who know how to cover every detail, including hiring or commissioning themed table numbers.

A recent commission My Event Decor undertook for the Eventhouse Cronulla opening was for surfboard table numbers - entirely appropriate for this beachside hotel launch!
